Why People Develop Eating Disorders

Eating disorders develop in people for many reasons. They are often created due to body image standards in society or trauma. Social media has made the issue worse due to cyberbullying, models being put on pedestals and eating disorder websites that promote it. People with trauma often want a sense of control over their life.

Someone with an eating disorder also might be struggling to cope with mental illness. They often do not have a good support system and they find it hard to notice their own feelings. Genetics can also play a role as a person with a parent with an eating disorder are more likely to develop one.
