At my signature project event, I targeted teens to spread awareness of eating disorders and their symptoms. I lead the group in two activities: bubble meditation and mindful eating. Both activities were designed to help participants develop a healthier relationship with food and their emotions.
Bubble meditation is the process of releasing negative emotions. You imagine putting all the pent-up negative thoughts and emotions into the bubble liquid and releasing them all as you blow the bubbles. Mindful eating is an exercise to prevent undereating and overeating.
The participants found the bubble meditation to be a fun and effective way to manage their stress. The mindful eating exercise was particularly eye-opening for many teens, as they realized how often they eat without truly paying attention. Several attendees mentioned that these activities helped them feel more in control of their eating habits. The event also included a discussion segment, where I shared strategies for maintaining a healthy relationship with food. Overall, the project was a meaningful step in promoting mental and physical health among teens.
